Privacy Policy for Nauplios Logbook

Nauplios Logbook is a digital sailing logbook for iOS. Your privacy is important to us. This policy explains what data the app accesses, how it is stored, and what control you have.

1. Data Storage

All data — sailing logs, vessel details, photos, and location information — is stored on your device using Apple’s SwiftData framework.

If you enable iCloud sync, your data is also stored in your private iCloud container via Apple’s CloudKit. This data is only accessible to you through your Apple ID. We have no access to your iCloud data. iCloud sync is optional and can be disabled in your device’s system settings under iCloud.

What happens on your boat, stays on your boat.

2. Device Permissions

The app requests the following permissions, each for a specific purpose:

• Location (When In Use): Auto-fills log entry coordinates and displays your position on the chart.
• Location (Always): Detects when your vessel is underway in the background and reminds you to log your position. Only used if you enable Smart Context Reminders in Settings.
• Camera: Lets you photograph your charter vessels and document conditions.
• Photo Library: Lets you attach existing photos to log entries and vessel profiles.
• Motion & Fitness: Detects shore excursions (walking/automotive activity) to suppress sailing reminders while you are ashore. Only used if you enable Smart Context Reminders.
• Notifications: Sends daily logbook reminders and underway alerts. Only enabled if you explicitly turn on reminders in Settings.

Each permission is requested only when you use the related feature — never automatically on first launch.

3. Data We Do Not Collect

• No analytics or telemetry
• No advertising or ad identifiers
• No tracking SDKs or third-party services
• No data is sent to our servers — we do not operate any servers
• No account creation required

4. Data Export

You can export your voyage data at any time in PDF, CSV, or GPX format using the iOS share sheet. Exported files are handled entirely by iOS — we do not receive or process them.

5. Data Retention & Deletion

Your data exists only on your device and, if enabled, in your private iCloud container. You are in full control:

• Delete individual log entries, voyages, or vessels at any time within the app.
• Deleting the app removes all local data from your device.
• To remove iCloud data, go to Settings > Apple ID > iCloud > Manage Storage on your device.

We do not retain any copy of your data.

6. Security

Your local data is protected by iOS device encryption. If you use iCloud sync, data is encrypted in transit and at rest by Apple’s CloudKit infrastructure. We do not have access to your encryption keys.

7. Children’s Privacy

This app is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

8. Changes to This Policy

If we update this policy, the revised version will be posted at this URL with a new “Last Updated” date. Material changes will be noted in the app’s release notes.
